Hello June, from the Exumas!

I haven't blogged since the last day of May as I have been busy prepping for a significant summer splash, requested by my best and most favorite little life inspirer. My daughter has been in a phase of aspiring to be a marine biologist for a solid year or so, and of course...I have leaned in hard. About six months ago, she asked if we could go to a random place on the map called Compass Cay to swim with the sharks. I had never heard of this place but was immediately enticed by this obscure little blip of an island in the Exumas island chain in the Bahamas. We arrived this morning to this little slice of paradise, got checked into an ocean front airbnb complete with fantastic snorkeling right from the backyard. Day one included a quick lunch and pit stop at the market to load up on groceries. We got settled in, put on suits, and adventured into the incredibly blue, warm, and inviting water. We saw a family of lobsters, lots of anemones, healthy seagrass habitat, small coral polyps, a green turtle, lots of little tropical fish, and I made friends with a very large sea slug. The absolute highlight was that my daughter managed to get my mom on a paddleboard...a tremendous feat if you know my mom! Another highlight was looking through photos from my underwater Olympus camera. This camera is almost 10 years old so I was super impressed with the quality of the photos! Maybe an ode to the incredible water quality, clarity, and marine life here <3

Tomorrow, we head to Compass Cay to swim with nurse sharks with a few stops along the way including the famous Bahamian swimming pigs experience.
